Inviron, the leading building services and facilities management provider, has recently commenced work on Suffolk One, a major educational project creating an innovative centre of learning for 16 to 19 year olds, on the edge of Ipswich.

To help ensure the building achieves its targeted BREEAM rating of ‘very good', Inviron, working alongside main contractor ISG Jackson, will install a wide range of energy efficient mechanical and electrical systems at Suffolk One.  These include an Interseasonal Heat Transfer system, rainwater harvesting, Windcatcher and Sunpipe systems providing natural ventilation and light, along with roof-mounted solar panels to provide hot water. 

These systems should enable One to make long-term savings and reduce its carbon emissions. For example, by storing up to 40,000 litres of rainwater, which can be used to flush toilets, the rainwater harvesting system can potentially save up to 50% of the expected annual mains water usage.

In addition to these energy efficient technologies, Inviron's installation at One includes heating, drainage, gas supplies and air conditioning, along with lighting, mains & sub-mains cabling, power outlets, alarm systems, CCTV and a standby generator.

Suffolk One, due to open to students in September 2010, aims to provide an inclusive and inspirational learning environment putting employability, investing in skills, raising quality and responding to employer needs as its key focus.  Over 2,000 16-19 year old full time students, with a further 200 14-16 year olds on a part time basis in association with their home school, will attend One.
