Inviron, the leading building services and facilities management provider, helped restore normal operations at Heathrow Airport following the dramatic crash landing of a British Airways aeroplane in January.
Inviron's rapid response, in the days after flight BA038 crashed, led to the runway approach lights repair work being completed almost two days ahead of schedule.
As the drama unfolded and the heroism of the plane's crew came to light, Inviron's team, based at the airport, was placed on stand-by to carry out the essential work.
Once the damaged aircraft was removed, Inviron's skilled team moved in and alongside BAA staff inspected the approach to the runway in order to assess the extent of damage.
The following day, the Inviron team began the crucial repair work to the runway approach lights, which included:
-
Removing and replacing damaged fibreglass Approach Poles and Lights which involved the team cutting the replacement poles to size before driving them into the ground they were then able to reconnect the cables to the new High Intensity Approach Lights and Supplementary Approach Lights.
-
The removal and replacement of damaged AGL Transformers and the repair of primary and secondary cables which meant meticulous excavation by hand to initially locate the damaged cables.
-
The disconnection and removal of damaged link boxes, then installing new six-way link boxes before reconnecting primary cables.
Ertan Huseyin, Inviron's Project Manager, commented "We were able to react quickly to BAA's request for us to carry out this work and are pleased to have been able to complete it well within the timescale, therefore, assisting in restoring Heathrow to 'business as usual'."
