Inviron completes second BAS contract
Inviron, the leading building services and facilities management provider, has built on its already solid working relationship with the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) through the completion of a second contract in 2007.

Inviron's Building Systems, Eastern Division, was appointed principle contractor for a mechanical and electrical refurbishment of the BAS computer room at its Cambridge headquarters.

The work was critical to ensure continued support from BAS to its operational staff based at the Antarctic station and included completely stripping out and replacing the cooling and ventilation systems, repositioning UPS batteries, installing new lighting, small power outlets, a fire detection and fire suppression system as well as new power supplies for data cabinets.

Earlier this year, Inviron completed a contract to refurbish the electrical services at BAS headquarters.

Richard Plummer, Inviron's General Manager, Eastern Division, commented: "We are pleased to have been entrusted by BAS with this further project work, which is key to maintaining and supporting their IT infrastructure and in turn, critical to ensure the support of their staff located at the Antarctic project."

Athena Dinar, spokesperson from British Antarctic Survey, said: "The work undertaken by Inviron has helped us to complete a major IT overhaul very successfully."

BAS has for 60 years undertaken the majority of Britain's research on and around the Antarctic continent.
