Inviron, the leading building services and facilities management provider is close to completing work at an impressive and historic building in Manchester's up-and-coming Piccadilly Basin.
Inviron's Building Systems, North West division is in the final stages of a mechanical and electrical installation project at Carvers Warehouse, which is being redeveloped by Town Centre Securities, into a stunning, contemporary structure.
Whilst installing the plant room equipment, an historically significant water wheel was discovered underneath the building, this would have been used in the days when the canal came directly into the warehouse to enable barges to unload. The team has ensured that the water wheel can be observed annually, by English Heritage, by installing a reinforced glass floor.
Eddie Marginson, General Manager, Inviron Building Systems North West commented "The M&E installations in Carvers Warehouse are exposed, which makes for a striking contrast to the old beams and brick of the walls. We are privileged to have been part of the restoration to one of Manchester's landmark buildings."
The building, which has been sensitively restored, will provide office space over six floors (22,263 sq ft).
The M&E installations include:
- LightingPower
- Data Security
- Door Access
- Architectural and Feature Lighting
- CCTV cameras Building Management System
- Automated Window Actuators
- Fire Alarm which utilises both traditional smoke detection and an aspiration air sampling system
- Air Conditioning
- Heating System, using cast iron radiators in the Warehouse building
- Plant Room Equipment
- Toilets and Showers including full facilities for disabled persons
Glyn Akesson, Town Centre Securities, said "Inviron have worked very closely with our design and construction team to deliver a challenging engineering solution to service this historic two star listed building successfully combining new with old. This development forms a major part in the successful regeneration of Piccadilly Basin.
