Inviron, the leading building services and facilities management provider, has been awarded a contract to install mechanical and electrical systems into a new state-of-the-art library commissioned by Southwark Council in east London.
Working with main contractor ISG Jackson, Inviron will install a number of eco-friendly technologies into the new Canada Water Library, including solar collectors to provide supplementary hot water, a system of bore holes and a ground source heat pump to provide heating and cooling to the main Air Handling plant, along with comprehensive energy metering to manage the buildings' energy profile in the long term. Inviron will also install a range of traditional mechanical and electrical services.
Canada Water Library will have excellent ‘green' credentials and aims to create a magnificent public facility that celebrates reading, writing and communicating, becoming the perfect home for study groups, homework clubs, adult learning and computer technology groups.
John Scanlon, general manager of Inviron's Building Systems London and South East, said: "We're really pleased to have been appointed to undertake the M&E installation in this striking 2,485m2 library project. There is a significant demand for buildings to be energy and cost efficient and Inviron has a well-deserved reputation for being able to deliver on such projects.
"I'm also looking forward to continuing our relationship with ISG Jackson, who we're currently working with on a project creating Suffolk One, a sixth-form college for over 2,000 students in Ipswich."
Ian Gifford, director of ISG Jackson's Public division, commented: "Trusted supply chain partners are an essential element of this highly complex and challenging building project. The library incorporates a visually striking inverted pyramid design that overhangs the Canada Water basin - bringing a range of technical challenges to the project as well as major logistical issues relating to the building's proximity to a busy underground station.
"Once completed, the library will undoubtedly become an iconic regional building, and is expected to provide the impetus for further localised regeneration efforts."
Inviron will start on site at the library in October 2009 with completion scheduled for December 2010.
The 2,485m2 aluminium-clad Canada Water Library forms part of an overall regeneration scheme for the area, which will involve the creation of 2,700 new homes, retail and office space along with leisure facilities
