Leading facilities management and building services provider, Inviron, has played a significant part in property giant Land Securities achieving a coveted environmental accolade.
The Carbon Trust Standard was awarded following a thorough assessment of selected Land Securities' premises in London. Inviron assisted at the locations chosen for the site-based section of the audit by demonstrating how the properties are managed, as well as outlining initiatives and procedures for saving energy.
These included the reduction of running times for high electricity usage plant i.e. chillers, pumps and air handling units, installation of energy efficient technologies, such as L.E.D lighting and cold cathode lamps, as well as arranging workshops relating to energy use and the environment for site-based employees.
In addition, the standard certifies that Land Securities has not only reduced its carbon footprint, but is also committed to making further year-on-year reductions of carbon emissions. To achieve this, Inviron will support Land Securities by helping to identify methods to reduce water and air conditioning usage and undertake further trials and tests of lighting and new energy efficient technologies.
Neil Johnson, general manager of Inviron's London Business Centre, commented: "We're very proud to have helped Land Securities achieve the Carbon Trust Standard. Now we can look forward to 2009 and build on these energy saving successes."
Michael Jefferson, Energy Manager for Land Securities Properties Ltd, added: "This standard is very much a recognition of both Land Securities and Inviron's hard work in targeting and reducing carbon dioxide emissions across the portfolio.
"The assessment took into consideration company policies, ethics and activities in addressing our carbon emissions and most importantly our year-on-year reductions and successes against the targets we have imposed upon ourselves."
Land Securities is the UK's leading property company, which owns and manages approximately six million square metres of commercial property and provides property services to more than 2,500 private and public sector clients.
Inviron's London Business Centre has been working with the company for a number of years, providing maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems at dozens of Land Securities' sites across London, including major developments such as New Street Square and Cardinal Place.
