Technical Solution: Refurbishment of the Gateway House
Project Description:
RAF Brize Norton is where the majority of military personnel are deployed from on their tours of duty and operational movements, The Gateway House provides short-term accommodation for up to 360 personnel at any one given time and is an extremely important MOD asset.
Inviron being the incumbent Measured Term Contractor at RAF Brize Norton were asked to begin a small programme of works, in July 2006, to replace part of the Hot Water System. However, the building which was erected in the 1960's, was found to have Asbestos Insulation that was breaking down and had to be removed.
The MOD then decided to undertake a major refurbishment of The Gateway House alongside the asbestos removal and that the project should move forward with immediate effect.
Inviron secured this £2.5m refurbishment project in February 2007 and officially handed over The Gateway House to the Station Commander in October 2007 (pictured).
Scope of Work:
- Installation of vanity units and wardrobes
- Replacement of old pipework with up to date limescale resistant pipes
- Installation of suspended ceilings
- Installation of new electrics
- Two new water tanks installed on rooftop plantroom
- Six new gas fired boilers installed
