Project
Description:
Inviron
acted as a prime contractor and installer on behalf of BAA supplier,
Vanderlande Industries, carrying out the mechanical and electrical
installation works on the baggage handling system at Heathrow
Terminal 5.
Inviron carried out mechanical and electrical
installation works on the Vanderlande Tubtrax® / Bagtrax® and the
Departure and Check-in conveyor systems.
The unique
Vanderlande Tubtrax® system is a new development for Terminal 5, it is
a network of twin belt conveyors, directly linked to the 'Early
Bag-Store', where baggage is stored, then retrieved from and
automatically returned to the system, to be delivered to the relevant
aircraft prior to departure.
Inviron also installed the
Vanderlandes Bagtrax®, which is a high-speed Destination Coded Vehicle
System, guided throughout Terminal 5A/Terminal 5B, and will
eventually link to Terminal 5C
The culture at Terminal 5 was
unique, with safety standards being absolutely paramount in
application. Inviron's commitment to safety was recognised on many
occasions, through BAA's Monthly Safety Awards.
