Location: Harland & Wolff, Belfast and Keppel Verolme, Rotterdam
Technical Solution: Air Conditioning and Ventilation
Client/End User: H&W for Dolphin Drilling
Project Information:
Inviron Marine Systems have provided the HVAC systems for the new Living Quarters and Power Generation Module, produced at Harland and Wolff, for the semi-submersible drilling rig "Blackford Dolphin".
After construction, the modules were transported by sea to Rotterdam where "Blackford" was undergoing a major refurbishment at the Keppel Verolme shipyard.
Marine air conditioning installations must be designed to maintain a safe and comfortable internal environment against the extremes of weather encountered at sea. The designer must also consider the risk from a fire onboard and the prevention of the ingress of contaminated air from any hazardous areas.
Additionally, the air conditioning systems for "Blackford Dolphin" are designed such that they can continue to operate in an emergency when the accommodation module is required to function as a "Temporary Refuge" for personnel.
